FIREFIGHTING

In the fire service we tend to apply practices simply because that’s the way it has been done for years. This class will dispel some of the myths pervasive in today’s fire service, along with the importance of conducting a proper size-up. This lecture will cover the importance of proper apparatus positioning and the significance of the initial attack line. The instruction will include several tactical considerations for modern suburban homes and how to keep those involved with the operation safe. Water supply will also be discussed as whether to attack on booster tank water or secure a water source. The different tactical considerations of multiple family occupancies will be reviewed with the methods of performing the tasks.

INSTRUCTOR BIO: Captain Bill Gustin is a 38-year veteran of the Fire Service and a Captain on the Miami-Dade County (FL) Fire-Rescue Dept. He began his career as a volunteer firefighter in the Chicago area and is a lead instructor in Miami-Dade’s Company Officer Development Program. Captain Gustin is a marine firefighting.
